The Scientific Conference “ Artificial Intelligence in Industry 4.0 and 5.0” was held in Belgrade on December 12, 2025. The Conference was organized by the Union of Engineers and Technicians of Serbia and the Engineering Academy of Serbia.
Co-organizers of the Conference were the Faculty of Technical Sciences, University of Novi Sad; the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Niš; the “Mihajlo Pupin” Technical Faculty in Zrenjanin, University of Novi Sad; and the Institute for Technology of Nuclear and Other Mineral Raw Materials, Belgrade.
The Conference was attended by around 100 participants from Serbia and abroad, employed at faculties and institutes, public administrations, educational institutions, and business organizations.
At the opening of the Conference, the attendees were addressed by Emeritus Prof. Dr. Ilija Ćosić, President of the Engineering Academy of Serbia, and Dr. Igor Marić, President of the Union of Engineers and Technicians of Serbia. In his address, Emeritus Prof. Dr. Ilija Ćosić spoke about the activities of the Engineering Academy of Serbia and the joint activities carried out in cooperation with the Union of Engineers and Technicians of Serbia. He emphasized that the conference dedicated to artificial intelligence and Industry 4.0 and 5.0 was being organized for the fifth time this year. Following previous topics related to Industry 4.0 and 5.0 and their application in various fields, the focus this year was placed on artificial intelligence in the modern industrial environment. Artificial intelligence represents the foundation of new industrialization and a key factor in industrial transformation. Its application enables automation, reconfigurability of industrial systems, adaptation to personalized market demands, as well as real-time data exchange and analysis. Prof. Ćosić stated that the goal of this conference was to present the current state and development trends in the application of artificial intelligence methods in Industries 4.0 and 5.0, both worldwide and in the region and the Republic of Serbia. He expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Science, Technological Development and Innovation of the Republic of Serbia for its support in organizing the event, as well as to the authors of the papers and the members of the Program and Organizing Committees, especially the Conference moderator, Prof. Dr. Miodrag Milošević.
In his opening address, Mr. Igor Marić welcomed the Conference participants and noted that this was the fifth conference in a row, expressing hope that many more would follow in the future. Such gatherings are of great importance, as society is still not sufficiently informed about these topics. He emphasized that today two concepts are particularly important: intelligence and smartness. There is much discussion about smart factories based on artificial intelligence. Intelligence represents a body of knowledge, while smartness represents the way in which that knowledge is managed. He highlighted that the topics to be discussed at the Conference were extremely practical, while at the same time having a strong educational component.
Within the working part of the Conference, moderated by Prof. Dr. Miodrag Milošević, papers were presented addressing progress and development in the application of speech technologies in the era of artificial intelligence; the use of avatars in education; the development and improvement of teaching processes through the use of AI-based tools and platforms; analysis and detection of defects in cast parts using deep learning; systems for constructing global maps from mobile LiDAR recordings; the application of blockchain technology and artificial intelligence in Industry 4.0; artificial intelligence algorithms in the optimization of technological product-processing processes; augmented reality in Industry 4.0/5.0; the role of artificial intelligence in enhancing cybersecurity; Logistics 4.0 in clinical research; digital twins as support for the management of sewerage systems; and Industry 4.1 as a driver of innovation in automotive manufacturing.
After the presentations, a discussion on the addressed topics was organized. The papers presented at the Conference were published in the Conference Proceedings.
By organizing this conference, the Union of Engineers and Technicians of Serbia and the Engineering Academy of Serbia aimed to bring together eminent experts in the field in one place and, through their presentations, provide an overview of the current state as well as development trends in the application of artificial intelligence methods and algorithms in the modern industrial environment, both globally and in the region and the Republic of Serbia. The Conference also provided an opportunity for participants to become acquainted with the latest knowledge in this field and with research conducted in Serbia, as well as to highlight potential opportunities for the application of new technologies.
The organizers will continue to address these topics in the future, taking into account their exceptional importance and relevance.
The Union of Engineers and Technicians of Serbia and the Engineering Academy of Serbia are organizing a Scientific Conference with International Participation "Artificial Intelligence in Industry 4.0 and 5.0". The conference is held under the auspices of the Ministry of Science, Technological Development and Innovation of the Republic of Serbia, on December 12, 2025, in Belgrade.
The co-organizers of the Conference are the Faculty of Technical Sciences, University of Novi Sad, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Niš, the Technical Faculty “Mihajlo Pupin” in Zrenjanin, University of Novi Sad, and the Institute for Technology of Nuclear and Other Mineral Raw Materials, Belgrade.
The goal of the Conference is to present the current state and trends in the development and application of artificial intelligence methods and algorithms in the modern industrial environment—globally, regionally, and within the Republic of Serbia.
